Khalid Hussein has been named the Star Tribune’s first-ever Metro Boys’ Cross Country Runner of the Year after capping his senior cross country season with a state title and an All-America honor for Wayzata High School.

The Gophers have won three-straight Border Battle dual titles with Wisconsin since starting the head-to-head competition back up in 2015.

A native of Plymouth, Minn., Hussein signed his National Letter of Intent with the Gophers last month after winning the 2017 MSHSL Class AA Cross Country Championship.

The Maroon & Gold posted three of the top-four heptathlon finishes over the two-day meet with newcomer Teddy Frid leading the Gophers with a runner-up finish at 4,438 points.

Trotter and Tollefson earned back-to-back victories for Minnesota at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex with Trotter claiming the 600-meter title and Tollefson following up with a win in the 60-meter hurdles.
